Exactly a year ago I joined a Pet Photography 52 Weeks Project Facebook group. The point of me joining was to challenge myself, to keep learning and creating. It was evident early on in the year that this is a group of extremely talented, successful pet photographers. I have to admit that after seeing their work I decided as a newby I wasn't ready to put myself out there, still more I needed to learn, practice, do, etc. etc. I was full of reasons why not to. Truth be told, I should have and could have, but sometimes new adventures are scary. Well not this year! This year I am going to jump right in! Well right into week 2 anyway, haha! After all, its about challenging myself, no-one else. Besides after being a silent observer for an entire year it is very evident that this is a very supportive and kind group of people, the only thing holding me back was me....
The premise of the project is to create a new photograph each week based on the shared theme, post it in your blog (on Fridays) and then link to another member's blog at the bottom of each post to form a "blog circle." Please be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this post so you can link to the next photographer and then the next and the next and before you know it will be past your bedtime ; )
I love color! I have not created many images in black and white so this first challenge for me is also something new (theme from week 1). One of the dogs I photographed this week at our local Humane Society is a Treeing Walker Coonhound, "Magoo". I thought he would make a good subject for a couple of reasons. 1) His coat has good contrast between black and white and dark brown 2) The environment was very drab as it was raining a little and 3) He was certain that there was an animal up in a tree & that took his complete attention. Most of my images are of him with his legs actually stretched up on the tree - so not really useable for a good mugshot!
I cropped this image a little to focus in on his gaze and added a snow overlay b/c the rain didn't really do anything to help the image (overlay, that's another first for me!)
There, that wasn't so difficult! I truly enjoyed this challenge and know that without a doubt I will be back next week. I hope you will continue to join me!!!
Now, please head over to Pet Love Photography, serving Greater Cincinnati and the San Francisco Bay Area for the next B&W Pet image in the blog circle!
Until next week,
